Happy Lunar New Year!

Many people don’t know I’m half Chinese. My mother grew up in Chinatown NYC and I grew up knowing how to say only one complete sentence to her mother in Chinese once a year, “Gung Hei Fat Choi.” Chinese New Year is hands down my favorite street celebration. Filled with confetti, superstition and dragons I embrace my Chinese heritage most especially today and it is an absolute joy to celebrate this tradition with my daughter each year.

We will be going to celebrate the Lunar New Year with my family in NYC over some vegan dim sum and lucky chachkis. Some Chinese superstitions for abundance and prosperity include: eating noodles, no sweeping, no cutting hair for a month, no using scissors or knives, no arguing or harsh language and wearing red for protection. So we are closed today, which is probably a good thing because you can’t sweep your floors, so you probably shouldn’t sweep your intestines with a colonic!

I couldn’t be more obsessed with this photo of one of my best friends Maddy and her champion horse, Bill.

Today marks the Year Of The Horse, which represents independence, freedom, passion, and ambition. The horse is also the symbol for my Sagitarrius zodiac sign, so expect some shitty surprises this year because I’ve got some brewing that I cannot wait to share with you!
